Relaunch My Life

WHEN HAVE YOU EVER REALLY FAILED?

I ask my clients a lot of questions at the start of their 12 week coaching programs to get to know them and their goals (and their view of the world).

One of them is are you more afraid of success or failure?

It surprises me that a lot of my clients are actually afraid of success.

They are aware of their capability and what they are actually capable of is what frightens them (and then what that means…)!

Other clients say they are afraid of failure and when I ask them a simple question it unravels it all.

‘When have you ever really failed?’

They will think of a time or something that they have classified as failure but as we explore this they realise that these failures were just ‘learnings’ and they really benefited from these learnings.

Think about something you believed you have ‘failed’ in.

A ‘failed’ relationship, a ‘failed’ job, a ‘failed’ driver’s licence test maybe.

Did you learn a lot about yourself and the way you handle things in that situation?

What about if you spoke to yourself in that situation with the wisdom you have today?

How you would handle it differently now?

Because nothing is actually good or bad.

Nothing is a failure or a success.

Things are only what we decide to think about them.

What is a more useful perspective? Seeing something as a ‘failure’ or seeing something as a ‘lesson’?

If you just think of everything in your life as an experience with neither good nor bad attached to it, it allows you to move forward with your life in a much more positive and empowered mindset.

So are you afraid of success or failure?

And are you willing to accept that you have never really failed at anything?

Your greatest fear is not that you’re going to die. Your biggest fear is that you’re going to die before you let the world see who you really are.” – Lisa Nichols
