EVER SET A GOAL AND FAILED TO ACHIEVE IT? HERE’S WHY…

I know, I know.. a lot of people actually groan at the thought of ‘goal-setting’ especially at the start of a new year.

 

And I’m here to tell you why. In fact, less and less people these days are taking the time to write down their goals. We are so busy in our day to day lives that so few of us take the time to truly think about and articulate what we want.

 

Or when we have set goals in the past, we haven’t achieved them and then we’ve stopped enjoying the process.

 

First of all, I believe in life we STOP setting goals because we don’t have any idea what to do to help ourselves actually achieve those goals.

 

Because there’s a BIG difference between GOAL SETTING and GOAL GETTING. And personally, I’ve found that a lot of us set goals all wrong which makes it hard to actually get or achieve our goals.

 

The thing is, if you have ever set a goal and not achieved it, the reason you may not want to set goals right now is because you have a negative association to goals at the unconscious level.

 

Maybe to you, at the deep unconscious level the idea of goals means failure.

 

None of us like to fail.

 

So, if we happen to have that feeling or belief inside of us, that can lead to a point in life where we STOP setting goals all together.

 

If you’ve been in my community for a while now then you’ll be well aware that I’m OBSESSED about understanding the power of our subconscious mind.

 

That’s because, the subconscious (or unconscious) mind is the part of you that runs your body, that preserves your body, that stores your beliefs and memories, and the part of you that runs your emotions. It’s a hugely powerful force within your own mind, and so few of us truly understand how to work with it. We fight ‘against it’. I’ve even heard of some people who are AFRAID of their own unconscious mind.

 

And so, we set goals CONSCIOUSLY rather than using our unconscious mind.

 

The problem with this is, your unconscious mind is either there to support you OR deter you from what you say you want, because your unconscious mind ALWAYS wants to protect you.

 

So, if you set a goal and your unconscious mind has a belief in direct conflict with that goal then SELF SABOTAGE and PROCRASTINATION is likely to set in.

 

For example, many people have a goal to lose weight.

 

But what if, at the unconscious level there is a belief of ‘I can never lose weight’ or ‘if I lose weight I might attract the wrong type of partner’ then there is NO way your unconscious mind is going to support you to achieve that goal.

 

You can have vision boards and affirmations all you want, but it’s not gonna help!

 

As I explain in depth in this week’s episode of Relaunch My Life Radio on my Podcast, your conscious mind is your goal setter.

 

Whereas your unconscious mind is your goal GETTER.

 

The ONLY answer I have found.. the key to EVERYTHING is truly working with your unconscious mind and using tools to support you to align your conscious with your subconscious.

 

Hypnosis, NLP and Time Line Therapy(TM) (which is a form of mild hypnosis where we can actually change our beliefs and decisions made at one point in our lives) is profoundly powerful for this.

 

Ultimately, I believe when we set a goal that is aligned with our values and beliefs, and 100% of us is in ALIGNMENT with it, and we take action towards that goal – then nothing can stop us.
