THE 4 WAYS STRANGERS REACT TO BEING TOLD THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL

Today I walked the streets of Sydney wearing a custom-made t-shirt that said ‘YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL’ on the front and the back.

I didn’t expect to be so confronted by the response I received.

There were 4 ways people reacted.

1) The uplifted smile.

There were hundreds of people who read my message and looked straight up into my eyes to check what my agenda was. When I simply returned their gaze with a warm, light, happy smile something shifted inside them and they smiled back.

Lesson 1: Would you read the message, accept it as true and smile back?

2) The quick look, reject as untrue, and look away.

The people who read my message, and even though I smiled at them, their reaction indicated they either didn’t think it applied to them or didn’t trust me and quickly looked away.

Most of these people were very aesthetically beautiful.

Lesson 2: Would you reject the message if a stranger told you that you were beautiful? If so, find 3 things about yourself that are beautiful before going onto the next sentence.

3) The people who didn’t read the message.

So absorbed in their own worlds, a lot of people were rushing by on phones or sadly looking down so they didn’t SEE the reminder of how beautiful they are.

Lesson 3: Stop and smell the roses.

Don’t rush through life missing the love and beauty in your world.

4) The warmest, most kind smiles I received were from the homeless and from the what society might label ‘misfits’.

These are the people who might get judged on appearances.

I saw all their beauty and radiance today.

And their smiles BEAMED back at me.

One young man smiled at me in the most sincere way after he read my t-shirt that I had to stop and ask if I could have a photo with him. His name is Angus (photo below).

The smile he returned to me today changed me and the way I see the world. Thank you Angus.

Lesson 4: “If you don’t find God in the next person you meet, it’s a waste of time looking for him further” – Mahatma Gandhi

Self love is a journey. It seems to easy to love everyone else, but when it comes to ourselves we can be so harsh and unforgiving. That’s why a large part of my one on one coaching is spent working on the area of self-love and building a strong relationship with yourself.
