Relaunch My Life

IS A SPIRITUAL AWAKENING THE SAME AS A MID-LIFE CRISIS?

“Welcome to The Dream Life Diary – Week 19”

DREAM

– Journal entry, Tuesday 16 August 2016-

It’s 8pm on Tuesday night.

I can hear rain falling softly on the roof outside, and I’m curled up in front of our heater.

I feel really good, today was a beautiful day. I did a yoga class nearby this morning, worked with a beautiful new coaching client, booked my flights for my Gold Coast Discover Your Highest Potential event next weekend and went for a walk with Paul and his dog. Bliss…

I can still remember a time just three years ago when my life was a daily struggle. When I would end my work day and collapse on the couch because I was so mentally exhausted from the stress and pressure I put on myself, not to mention the fact that I would hold my breath at work all day. I literally never breathed.

Sometimes I think about the fact that the amount I changed and evolved in the past few years probably seems insane to the people who knew me in my early twenties. It’s like I am a completely different person.

No matter how crazy my turnaround must have seemed, I’m truly so thankful I had my mid-life crisis early!

I had my spiritual awakening when I was 27, so I like to say I had a ‘quarter-life crisis’ as I hope to live to over 100 this lifetime…

But is a spiritual awakening the same as a mid-life crisis?

At the risk of sounding controversial, I feel like a mid-life crisis is what happens in your forties or fifties when you’ve been disconnected from your spiritual side or ignoring your intuition.

So, I feel like a mid-life crisis is a delayed spiritual awakening.

Our bodies are continually sending us feedback and if we are on track with our path we literally glimmer and sparkle with life (As my Mum would say to me “now, that is someone with zest for life!“).

If we are off track, lost and disconnected from our spirit/intuition/path we are usually showing signs of struggling, stress and dis-ease.

The internet was a big part in me educating myself about all things body, mind and spirit after I awakened.

Taking my Father’s sagely advice “Juliet, never get all your truths from one source” the internet provided me an incredible ability to research literally hundreds of different speakers, experts and physicians.

I balanced these ‘experts’ advice with my own inner knowing and formed my own truth about the world.

Humanity is evolving. It always is.

And as happens through evolution with each generation, we have seen the patterns in our parent’s lives and we don’t want to repeat them.

We care less about money, big houses and fancy cars.

We care more about the currencies of connection, finding home in friendship and travelling in wellness until the end of our days.

Intuition is finally starting to overtake intellect.

So if your life doesn’t feel as stable as it once did, trust that it is okay… because perhaps whatever crisis or confusion you are going through now is preventing you from having an even bigger one later in life.

What are your thoughts?

LIFE

– Inspiration or Soul Nourishment –

I watched this video ‘Follow Your Heart’ by Steve Jobs and Alan Watts literally every day when I started my business just two years ago. It guided me through some very difficult decisions and deep moments of doubt and despair… I hope it helps you no matter where you are at on your journey.

QUESTION:

What is your biggest fear right now? What is the worst that could happen? Could the opposite also be equally true?

  • Dear Julia..

Just stumbled upon your blog and agree with what you say.

A little about me: I’m 52 and have long suffered from depression and social anxiety. I feel that I’ve been going through the awakening process for at least a couple of years, and it incurred to me during this process that what they call a “midlife crisis” is simply someone finally waking up to their truth. How many of us are trapped in jobs we hate because we’re too afraid to do what we’d really like to do (me), or stuck in a career that doesn’t speak to our souls because of family tradition? Societal conditioning also teaches us to do whatever we can to keep a roof over our heads to be self-sufficient and independent, but it never teaches us to live in our unlimited power. If anything, it seems to suggest that we HAVE no power and that we must accept life as it is. So good for you that you were able to “break free” early on from this conditioning and fear and do what speaks to your heart. That takes more than awareness, it takes COURAGE. I’ve ALWAYS had the awareness of who I wanted to be, I just NEVER had the courage .

Anyway.. just wanted to comment, luv. All the best to you. xx
